westcoast trip take 4 (the end of seattle)
Published December 6, 2006 photos 3 CommentsTags: seattle, street photos
Here’s the end of my digital shots from Seattle. My roommate is coming home in a few days from working on a movie out in South Carolina and that means I will once again have access to a scanner.. so I should get some film stuff up here as well fairly soon.
Anyway..
Here is Katia. You may recognize the location
I should’ve worked in the “One Way” sign to this composition. The man protesting was against gay people and the two girls were gay and were protesting against the protesters. It was a rather retarded ordeal, really. Thankfully FOX news was there. Perhaps they organized the event?
Katia shooting on the gum wall. Yummm
Really, the colour scheme could not have worked out much better than this. I really should’ve yelled to get his attention so he would turn around. Oh well.
And that’s that!
Enjoy,
Clayton

and the shots continue…..
(comments are below the photos)
My anut/unkka’s doggie
She was super tough to photograph in such low light as I was shooting f1.4 and she was so hyper and would not sit still
Man in park
Tourist photo
Gay vacation
Chillaxin’. I regret not getting a close-up of the fat dude… although now that I think about it I think I did on my Yashica on a yet-undeveloped roll.. We’ll see…
Unsharpen Mask, much?
Like this one though I wish he was facing me, of course…
This was a really great fountain but it was super hard to photograph at the time I was there. This was the most amount of people I saw in the fountain in like 30 minutes I was waiting and trying to shoot in it. It’s a super cool place and the water jets change pressure and whatnot. It really cools off the entire area, which was nice because it was slightly hot this day.
Here’s a wider shot. Postcard, much?
Here I discover the best couple ever. I am currently trying to come up with a gameplan to best photograph them.
There is the execution. I really didnt want to lose the Fun Forest sign, even though it is a bit far off. It adds a great contrast and complimenting colours I thought. I’m also fairly sure I shot a closer/center-framed take on my yet-undeveloped Yashica roll… Let’s hope.
More EMP stuff.
Gangsta!
This scene was fairly surreal, though the photos don’t much capture it. It was a HUGE group of Japanese tourists all crossing the lawn towards the Space Needle.
They were zombie-like, in a way. And the sun was great.
Posted this one on dA. One of my favorites of the entire trip, I think
Really, it’s just fucking brilliant, in a way. To me.
Sure it’s not much of a photo, but how many people would notice this?
Another favorite of mine.
I liked this building. Kind of a mini-Seattle version of NYC’s Flatiron building.
Tried to capture the motion of the people and the stillness of the guitar player. It came off decent I guess..
Pay him. Hmm too much dodge/burn I think.
Something I really liked about this scene, too. It was one of my last photos from Seattle. Perhaps it was just signaling my leaving of the city with these two leaving work for home. I dont know…
..
So I should have one more DIGITAL update from Seattle with photos from my first few days. Somehow I skipped over them. I still need to get to all my film, and my digital shots from San Francisco, although I shot 80% film in San Francisco, so there is not too much.
As always, let me know what you think!!!
Enjoy,
Clayton
westcoast trip take 2 (seattle still)

more shots from Seattle. Still all Canon 20D shots….
Outside the library. Liked the contrast here
Simple but something I like here.
I loved these two guys… Time to stalk them for a better shot…
Fantastic light!!!
Think I even like the colour version better.
Another simple but somehow pleasing moment.
Katia and I had just been discussing how in America there is too little PDA (as opposed to Europe). Then I saw this. Love it.
…Im quite sure she knew I was there. But he has no idea or care!
Some little cafe near my Aunt’s work.
I always have to do this. Some guy walking down the street caught it and actually walked away. Not only did he not want to be photographed, he didnt want to be photographed in a reflection!
I love this one… This is some chef I think, inside the Frank Gehry designed EMP (Experience Music Project Museum).
More EMP with Space Needle
EMP weirdness.
Space Needle weirdness.
Great colours and textures!
Taken from some hill across some bay from downtown. There were too many hills and bodies of water to remember. Actually, the only one I even do remember is Capitol Hill. Ha. You may recognize this shot from TV’s Frasier. This was, I think, a 30second exposure. On the full-rez image there are some odd red lights in the sky (not the lights on the buildings). I think they are orbiting sattelites or something. There was also a faint white streak that is probably a star or planet. Good times.
Okay, this is a good spot to break for now! Even more to come.
Enjoy,
Clayton
westcoast trip take 1

so here are the first few shots from my seattle/san francisco/la trip. the first few groups are all going to be digital shots as i cannot scan my film and haven’t developed it all yet anyway. Some shots are much better than others and a few are not really what I’d normally post, but keep in mind I was a tourist, too on this trip!!
new construction downtown.
There are so many dogs in this city. And of course, coffee.
I styayed with Katia while out in Seattle. She was super kind and opened up her house to me for 4 or 5 nights, I forget. This was one of her 2 cats in the bedroom window.
Seattle has a fairly new library. It is GIANT and very fun to explore and shoot in. The next bunch are all from the library…
That little thing across the way is a person, to give you a sense of the scale in there..
From the top looking downward.
This was in the map room. If I wasn’t busy exploring the city I would’ve totally spent some time in there.
A kid peeking thru some empty shelves.
I like this one for the building and because of the guy giving me a peace sign in the center window. Look close!
These were statues made of salt they had just installed in Pioneer Square. They are meant to literally melt away with the rain.
One of Seattle’s many homeless people in the square.
Two Seattle architectual landmarks here, if you care
Ahh this was a very interesting sight. There was a woman picking for bags in the garbage. She was adamant about the fact that she wasn’t homeless, though I saw her begging for change a little while later. She had one very large dog and a cat. It was funny because the cat seemed to be running the show and the dog was very quiet and laid back.
She then tried to perform a trick with them but it didn’t work very well.
Another classic Seattle moment but I fucked it up with some bad camera settings. Oh well.
I really like this one a lot for some reason.
And here. Just kind of nice.
My lens was not wide enough… This is the library from the exterior!
Okay, so I think 30 is a good place to stop for now.
The first few days in Seattle I was a bit rusty with the streetshooting. I kept feeling slow and like I was missing all the moments. After a few days I warmed up a bit and I think some of my best shots came when I was in San Francisco.
Anyway, more tomorrow perhaps!
Enjoy,
Clayton
